The most vocal today are the speeches in support of the protesters in Hong Kong. It is certainly good and important to pay attention to what is happening in Hong Kong. Pro-China policies are clashing with pro-U.S. policies in Hong Kong, and the prolonged unrest and demonstrations are a clear indication that the local population is yearning for freedom and liberation.
The world is watching the region and the U.S. president is making every effort to show his involvement to all. A few days ago, he signed a law supporting Hong Kong protesters, whether China likes it or not.
But are his efforts really just a statement of good will, or do they have another purpose?
Largely unnoticed by the media and largely hidden in the shadows, two very different processes are taking place. They are the impeachment of the President of the United States and the corrupt impeachment of the Prime Minister of Israel. [It is almost humorous that these two great political advocates and contemporaries are simultaneously facing such serious charges. One would expect these two events to make headlines these days, but they do not. The cover-up of turning the spotlight elsewhere has so far worked.
Impeach Donald Trump
What is impeachment anyway? Simply put, it is a constitutional impeachment of an elected official that could lead to removal from office. The essence of impeachment is defined in the U.S. Constitution, and I quote, “The President, Vice President, and all officers of the United States, shall be impeached, and upon conviction of treason, bribery, or other felonies and misdemeanors, shall be impeached. Several U.S. presidents have faced impeachment under the Constitution. Certainly the most famous is probably the Watergate scandal that unseated President Richard Nixon. But not only Nixon, but also, for example, Andrew Johnson and, more recently, Bill Clinton have faced impeachment under the Constitution. Bill Clinton won all of them. But perhaps also because it dealt more with his relationship with Monica Lewinsky than with his real estate dealings, which were the genesis of all the proceedings.
And what about Donald Trump? He faces possible impeachment for his activities in Ukraine. Exchanging U.S. military aid for Trump\’s rival\’s investigation into Ukraine smacks strongly of an abuse of the power Trump exercises as the elected president of the United States.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\’s corrupt behavior
Parallel to these events, another impeachment is taking place on another continent. The title is simpler. Simply Corruption. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing it. He is alleged to have accepted bribes of up to $280,000 by Israeli police. This money was supposed to motivate him to push for a law that would allow Israelis who settle in Israel to avoid paying taxes for 10 years. This is not the first challenge to the Israeli Prime Minister\’s honor. He has already faced various accusations, such as keeping gifts given to the State of Israel for himself and his wife, Sarah, or, conversely, recording private expenses as state expenses.
Yes, the actions of the Israeli prime minister seem like a slight oversight compared to the impeachment of Donald Trump. It should be noted, however, that these two men have been among the most vocal in their opposition to Middle Eastern nations, taking on various politicians and pointing out their immoral and illegal behavior. But neither of us has a guilty conscience.
We don\’t know what will happen in the next few days. One can only hope that the protests in Hong Kong, the U.S. Prime Minister\’s Thanksgiving visit to Afghanistan, and Israel\’s further attacks on Palestine will not draw all the attention to themselves.
